Essential oils are aromatic liquids extracted from shrubs, plants and trees. Essential oils protect plants from insects, disease, physical damage and environmental conditions and are considered to be the immune system of plants. Essential oils are extracted from plants through steam distillation, which has to be very carefully to maximize the healing qualities of the oils. Young living essential oils are distilled from plants from all over the world. The plants must be grown organically in order for them to yield top quality therapeutic value.

The essential oil is the part of the plant that helps the body heal. The molecules in the oils mimic the molecules that the body uses for repair and regeneration. These oils are natural and non-toxic. All essential oils have not been created equal. If you go to your local healthy food store or vitamins shop you will probably find a variety of oils labeled pure, natural, aromatic and even organic. However, most of those oils can not compare to the therapeutic grade oils Young Living offers. Those oils are generally less expensive and altered with synthetic fillers. If you read the label it’s never suggested that the oil is ingested and this is due to it’s lack of true purity.

 How to Use

It is very important to understand how to safely use essential oils. Essential oils are very potent highly concentrated oils and should be used with care. It’s best to start gradually and patiently to find out what works best for you and your family members.

Topical Application

raindrop3    Many oils are safe to apply directly to the skin or Neat. When starting an essential oil    application, depending on which oil you use, you may want to test for skin sensitivity by applying the oil first to the bottom of the feet. (Vita Flex foot Chart). Simply apply 3 – 6 drops spreading it over the bottom of each foot.

When applying to the other area of the body make sure the oil can be applied neat and if not dilute with a carrier oil as it is recommended on the bottle. Other parts of the body tend to vary in sensitivity and are different from person to person. Therefore, making sure you understand the oils you are using before applying.

Applying topically includes using them for massages, acupuncture, acupressure, with warm compress, and cold compress. These oils can easily be layered when needed to increase therapy to specific areas for varied symptoms.

Diffusing essential oils increases the oxygen availability, produces negative ions, and release natural ozone. Instead of masking odors, the diffused oils alter the structure of the molecules or in simple terms it eliminates germs and bacteria. The best diffusing method will be a cold air diffusing system. Heating the oils will render the oil therapeutically less beneficial and even create toxic compounds. Cold air diffusing

 Ingesting**

 Young Living essential oils can be easily added to your daily tea or beverage 1 to 2 drops at a time. You will want to use glass containers to avoid chemical toxins that can be released from plastic and then ingested. Before taking GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) essential oils internally, specifically by way of capsules, test your reactions by diluting one drop of essential oil in one teaspoon of oil-soluble liquid like blue agave, olive oil, or rice milk. If you intend to consume more than a few drops of diluted essential oil per day, it’s recommended that you consult a health professional first.

Storage

  1. Keep a bottle of pure vegetable oil (e.g., V-6 vegetable oil complex, almond oil, coconut oil) handy when using essential oils. The vegetable oil will dilute the essential oils if the essential oils cause discomfort or skin irritation. If an oil begins to burn just apply a few drops of carrier to the area and the heat will go away.  Never Use Water. Water will drive the oil deeper into the skin and increase the burning sensation.
  2. Bottles of essential oils should be tightly closed and stored in a cool location away from light. When stored as such the essential oils maintains their potency for many years.
  3. Keep essential oils out of reach of children. Oils should be treated as any product for therapeutic use. Children love the oils and will desire to give massages and do what they see you do.
